The Board currently by statute shall be composed of no more than eleven (11) members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. Seven (7) members must be licensed physicians in the District of Columbia, three (3) shall be consumer members, and one member must be the Director of the Department of Health or his/her designee.

There are currently 6 physician members, 1 statutory member representing the Director of the Department of Health and 2 consumer members on the Board. The Board meets the last Wednesday of every month except for the month of August. The Board also holds monthly subcommittee meetings and disciplinary hearings that are composed of selected members of the full Board.
